He completed his general surgery residency at Washington University in St. Louis and a Colorectal Surgery Fellowship at the Lahey Clinic in Boston, Massachusetts. He is board certified in General Surgery by the American Board of Surgery. He is also certified in Colon and Rectal Surgery by the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. In addition to his surgical practice, Dr. Mitchem has been busy in the research lab studying immune-based and precision therapy in colorectal cancer funded by the Department of Veterans’ Affairs.  Dr. Mitchem is currently a Colorectal and General Surgeon at the Harry S.
