Available after Purchase Faculty Jennifer Burdick, Community Legal Services (PA) Related seminars and products: 2 Jennifer Burdick – joined Community Legal Services as a Duffy Fellow and a Staff Attorney in the SSI Unit at Community Legal Services in 2013. Her practice focuses on representing adults and children facing issues both attaining and maintaining Supplemental Security Income benefits, including at hearings before the Office of Disability Adjudications. She also does national advocacy surrounding Social Security benefit issues. Previously, Ms. Burdick worked in the Labor and Employment Unit at Dechert LLP and clerked for Judge Van Antwerpen for the United States Appellate Court for the Third Circuit. While in law school, Ms. Burdick completed internships in the Public Benefits unit at Community Legal Services and at the American Civil Liberties Union in Wilmington, Delaware. She also served as Co-Chair of the National Lawyers Guild, the Student Public Interest Network and as a staff writer on the Temple Law Review.Ms. Burdick received her J.D. magna cum laude from Temple University Law School in 2009. She received her BA from Vassar College in 2004 where she studied political science and Italian. Steve Rollins, Esq. Related seminars and products: 1 Steven Rollins – Mr. Rollins is the Director of the Pennsylvania Bureau of Disability Determination Services. He was the owner of Rollins Law Office, and for 20 years represented claimants for Social Security Disability Benefits at the administrative level and in United States district courts and circuit courts of appeal. He is former legal counsel to the United States Department of Health and Human Services Office of General Counsel. He has lectured on Social Security law for the Pennsylvania Bar Institute, the Philadelphia Bar Institute, the Pennsylvania Trial Lawyers, the Pennsylvania State University Dickinson School of Law, and the National Organization of Social Security Claimants’ Representatives, as well as for various support, insurance, and medical groups. Mr. Rollins earned a B.S. in computer science from Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania and was awarded his J.D. from Temple University School of Law. Leon Scales, Esq. Related seminars and products: 1 Leon Scales – is the Virginia Disability Determination Services (DDS) Director. The Virginia DDS is a division of the Virginia Department for Aging and Rehabilitative Services (DARS). The DDS division has approximately 500 employees and is responsible for accurate and timely medical determinations for Social Security and Medicaid disability applicants.Mr. Scales has held the position of DDS Director for approximately 7 years; he was previously the VA DDS Deputy Director – Operations. All of his 20 years work experience has been with the VA DDS, in multiple capacities. Mr. Scales has a well-rounded organizational background with experience as a disability examiner, lead worker, office/operations manager, LAN coordinator, budget/administrative manager, business process specialist, director of operations, and currently division director.Leon Scales received his BA in History and MPA in Public Administration from Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University (Virginia Tech), and he is a graduate of the Commonwealth of Virginia Executive Institute. Mr. Scales has earned recognition and many awards for his contributions to the Virginia Department for Aging and Rehabilitative Services and the Social Security disability program. Honors include multiple SSA Regional and SSA Associate Commissioners Citations, SSA Deputy Commissioner Operations Leadership Award, and the VA DDS is the 2016 recipient of the SSA Associate Commissioner Phoenix Award.
