He is the seventh of nine children. He went to college at Brigham Young University, and then to medical school at Midwestern University in Illinois. He was trained in Internal Medicine at Mercy Hospital in St. Louis and then completed a fellowship in Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism at Washington University in St. Louis. He currently practices in Quincy, Illinois as the only Endocrinologist in his group.
