Clay Allen – Winning The Performance Game
The performance game is the game that all investors play. It is about beating the market. Many say it can’t be done but this book shows you how to beat the market. Major sections include portfolio management, investor psychology, performance measurement and management, the use of charts and lessons learned the hard way.
Customer Reviews
I was deeply impressed by this book. The core idea and the strong message: when invested keep an eye on your investment’s relative strength like a hawk ! The long term relative strength charts suppress the noise in the stock prices and relative strength removes the noise of the market. The book is exceptionally well written in a way that even a high school student can understand. There are ample examples that make the point very clear. I believe that practicing Relative Strength Analysis along Mr Allen’s guidelines will improve investment performance tremendously. In addition it will improve the level of confidence ,control, sanity and quality of sleep of all. The charting system by using Point and figure is easy to comprehend and apply .I fully mastered it after reading the book and looking up some additional examples online.Once convinced, you could learn much more by logging on Mr Allen’s website and even sign up with his excellent Market Dynamics program. This program’s strength is the ability to show which stocks/industries/sectors are healthy(up trending relative strength) and which ones are “sick” i.e persistently down trending relative strength. Its greatest strength and unique feature is its ability to dramatically change the color of the chart to red when performance is no longer acceptable. This feature is automatically programmed and has a powerful visual effect. It helps to break through a process of denial that investors usually go through when faces with an unexpected negative turn of events with a stock to which they got too attached or committed. An awesome example is the Enron stock on which the system sounded an alarm months before the collapse( see example in the book p 223) I highly recommend the book and the website and would like to thank Mr Allen for his very important contribution to the world of investing.
