What is integrity?
Integrity is about having a moral and ethical compass, and then acting and speaking in ways that align with those views. When we are experiencing a loss of integrity it can show up in a number of ways. Maybe we make promises or assurances to people, and then find it hard to follow through or keep our word. Sometimes we may have a good sense of what is “right” to us, but it becomes easier, faster, or cheaper to cut corners or tell a little lie here or there. When we have integrity, we do the “right” thing, even when it is inconvenient or upsetting. If we living are in integrity, we do the right thing even when nobody is looking or checking up on us.
What can cause this loss of integrity? Ultimately, we are experiencing a disconnect from our true self. Sometimes this is due to outside influences or programming that makes us doubt or second-guess what we know to be right in our deepest levels. We may feel pressure from society or from our peers to behave in ways that are not in alignment with our true feelings. Sometimes, we begin to lose our integrity because the easiest thing to do is not always the “right” thing to do. It’s time to get back to the core of who we are. When we reconnect to our true Self, we get clear on our values and ethics. With this clarity comes a willingness to once again live in accordance with your own inner truth!
