About Author of Adaptive Signal Processing:
Bernard Widrow,Samuel D. Stearns
Bernard Widrow (born December 24, 1929) is a U.S. professor of electrical engineering at Stanford University. He is the co-inventor of the Widrow–Hoff least mean squares filter (LMS) adaptive algorithm with his then doctoral student Ted Hoff. The LMS algorithm led to the ADALINE and MADALINE artificial neural networks and to the backpropagation technique. He made other fundamental contributions to the development of signal processing in the fields of geophysics, adaptive antennas, and adaptive filtering.
Samuel D. Stearns is Professor Emeritus at the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque, NM. He has been a Research Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at UNM since 1999, and involved in adjunct teaching and research at UNM since 1960.
His principal technical areas are digital signal processing and adaptive signal processing. His most recent work has been in teaching these subjects at the University of New Mexico and in industrial short courses, as well as in consulting.
Salient features:
Introduces the concept of adaptation as a property or characteristic of certain engineering systems.
Describes a geometric “performance surface” for the analysis of all adaptive systems.
Covers the major applications of adaptive signal processing.

Author
Bernard Widrow, an internationally-recognised authority in the field of quantization, is a professor of electrical engineering at Stanford University, Californica. He pioneered the field and one of his papers on the topic is the standard reference. He is a Fellow of the IEEE and the AAAS, a member of the US National Academy of Engineering, and the winner of numerous prestigious awards.
