Dr. Cunningham was Chief Resident in the Akron General Emergency Medicine program. He has been active in medical education for his entire professional career serving as an Associate Director in an Emergency Medicine Residency and as Director of Medical Education at Metro Health/University of Michigan Hospitals in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He served for six years on the Board of the Statewide Campus System (SCS) at Michigan State University, which governs student and resident physicians in forty-two hospitals and over two hundred residency programs in Michigan. At Michigan State University, he was appointed to the Curriculum Committee Revision Task Force and served in that capacity for three years until the completion of the project. He serves as the College Representative on the University Curriculum Committee, which is the governing body for all curriculum at Michigan State University. He is also a member of the Osteopathic College Curriculum Committee. As Director of the Institute for Global Health he has expanded the footprint to include research, education and capacity building in fourteen countries on four continents. He is currently developing a Masters in Global Health for the University.
